Agriculture

In last few years, the main income source of villages- Agriculture; had started trembling. With traditional ways of farming, degraded soil quality and depleted water resources, it was becoming highly difficult to make farming profitable. As a result of less profitability, farmers had to keep major parts of land idle, which further led to degradation of soil.

Bhagirath Gram Vikas Pratishthan along with the help of renowned agriculturists addressed these issues and introduced newer techniques of farming which not only improved the soil quality but also helped farmers to make better profits. All these techniques were first tried and tested by Bhagirath Gram Vikas Pratishthan officials and then farmers were properly trained for these new farming practices. They were also provided with seeds, equipment and other materials by Bhagirath Gram Vikas Pratishthan. The farmers were communicated and convinced about the idea of rotating crop patterns. We also encouraged people to build field ponds to increase the water level in the soil. As of now, about 15 such field ponds are under construction. Along with farming, we also encouraged people to opt for parallel ventures such as poultry; piggery, dairy products, organic manure generation etc.

The result has been truly mesmerising! Frustrated farmers are now happily engaged in advanced and more profitable tasks. With 175 small and medium poultry farms, around 150 milk centres, 3 large-scale piggeries, more than 50 organic manure generation plants and 85 self-help women groups benefiting from dairy/poultry products; Bhagirath Gram Vikas Pratishthan has been instrumental in the complete transformation of these villages.
